Mr. Bamboo
Owner Mark Mortimer has over 25 years experience working with bamboo. It’s fair to say he’s obsessed with bamboo. He bought Jungle Flora off his friends Carolyn and Anthony Melling in September 2023 and he was the natural buyer. Mark has been working with bamboo as a material since his arrival in NZ over 20 years ago. His other business, Bambusero, is dedicated to selling bamboo poles and using bamboo for interior design, shop fitting, restaurant fit outs as well as Japanese fencing and other items.
Now he’s selling bamboo plants, specializing in non-spreading, clumping bamboo for privacy. All the varieties have been chosen for their height, speed of growth and straightness. All things required when you are trying to achieve “no more neighbours”. Most of Jungle Flora’s clients have had a sudden privacy issue thrust upon them by (usually) a new build next door, or vegetation removal on the boundary. This is a growing scenario due to our cities changing demographics and planning laws.
